Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my campaign for Sheriff of Person County. Please allow me to tell you a little about myself.

Born and raised in Person County, I bring nearly four decades of public service experience, grounded in integrity, accountability, and a commitment to our community.

Before I retired in 2024, I served 30 years with the Person County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout my career, I worked in nearly every area of the department—from patrol and jail operations to courthouse duties and internal support roles. Before that, I served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Military Police officer, where I learned the discipline and dedication that have guided my life.

I have been married for 27 years and, with my wife, have raised four children in Person County. My family reminds me every day why safe, fair, and thriving communities matter.

As Sheriff, I will focus on fairness, transparency, and respect for all residents. I will work to strengthen community trust, modernize the Person County Sheriff’s Office with better policies and technology, improve efficiency within the department by reviewing the budget and reevaluating spending, support officer wellness and training, and manage resources responsibly so our neighborhoods are safer and stronger.

Every taxpayer dollar should directly support public safety and effective law enforcement. Dennis’ funding priorities will focus on training, staffing, and essential equipment while eliminating waste and unnecessary spending. Responsible budgeting ensures the department operates efficiently and delivers measurable value to the community.

A sheriff must always lead with integrity, fairness, and accountability. Ethical leadership means applying the law equally across the board, refusing favoritism or influence, and holding everyone in the organization to clear and consistent standards.
As sheriff, Dennis will foster a culture where his door is open and feedback is appreciated. Transparency is expected, misconduct is addressed promptly, and the public can trust that the sheriff’s office exists to serve the community, not personal or political interests.
Many individuals entering the justice system struggle with untreated mental illness, and ignoring that reality only increases repeat offenses and strains public resources.
As sheriff, Dennis will work to ensure appropriate mental health screening and support within the jail, while strengthening partnerships that help individuals transition successfully back into the community.
Effective re-entry programs can improve safety for deputies and residents, while also helping individuals get the support they need to break the cycle of incarceration.
Law enforcement works best when it is firm, fair, and focused on those causing the most harm in the community. Dennis Allen believes the law must be enforced consistently and without bias, while prioritizing serious and repeat offenders.
As sheriff, he will direct resources toward dismantling drug trafficking and holding dealers accountable, especially in known drug hotspots that have been allowed to operate with little consequence for decades. At the same time, deputies will respect constitutional rights and exercise sound discretion, ensuring enforcement is tough where it needs to be and fair in every case.
When agencies operate in silos, every response becomes riskier. One missed step can put both the public and first responders in danger.
Dennis will work to restore a disciplined, team-first mindset that ensures every deputy understands their role and how it intersects with EMS and First Responders. By fostering this culture of teamwork and reliability, the sheriff’s department and its partners can operate like a cohesive unit, improving safety, efficiency, and outcomes for the community.
Education and outreach programs will be expanded to provide residents with more resources and information to prevent crime, respond safely in emergencies, and understand local law enforcement. By engaging schools, civic groups, and neighborhood organizations, these initiatives will strengthen trust, build relationships, and empower the community to be active partners in safety.
Many of the policies guiding the Person County Sheriff’s Office were originally authored by Dennis Allen in the early 2000s and have served the department for decades. While they served the department well at the time, they no longer meet the needs of today’s law enforcement challenges. Updating these policies will ensure the office operates safely, efficiently, and in line with modern best practices.

He is committed to conducting a thorough review of the department’s budget to eliminate waste, reduce inefficiencies, and ensure resources are used where they make the greatest impact. This includes prioritizing training, staffing, and essential equipment while avoiding unnecessary spending on tools or programs that do not improve safety or service.
Every dollar should have a clear purpose and measurable value for the community.
